Discretion was key in renovating this older home. Removing an interior bearing wall helped transform a superfluous mudroom into an airy dining room. An adjacent three-season porch was carefully inlayed into the diminutive lot without crowding out distant views of the bay from the dining room’s window seat. For a second floor addition, zoning procedures were avoided by placing its side wall two feet inside of the first floor wall. Recycled furniture pieces were forged into a fireplace surround as well as a bathroom vanity – reinforcing the home’s historic roots.
